About KBBA
The Key Biscayne Bar Association began on a local level when Attorney James P.S. Leshaw announced he was leaving Greenberg Traurig in the city of Miami to open his own law firm on Key Biscayne. He spent his last days at Greenberg pondering a very important issue, "Who am I going to have lunch with now?" When Leshaw, who regularly commuted downtown by bicycle from his home on Key Biscayne, realized his lunchmates would be mostly other lawyers from the Key, he envisioned one big lunch. That idea came to him on his ride home that night from Brickell, and by the time he got to Crandon Park he came up with the idea of a Key Biscayne Bar Association. He sent out an email to about 30 lawyers on the Key to ask if they would be interested and received a resounding "yes" to all who responded. As a matter of fact, not one said no. The next email he sent included a date and time for the first meeting and 27 lawyers showed up. What started as an idea to meet lawyers for lunch turned into a vibrant organization of Key Biscayne lawyers meeting to network, continue their education, and give back to the community.
Our Mission
Our Mission is to provide a local organization for the Village lawyers to meet, network, and promote their skills and services. Although Key Biscayne is a village on a small island, its lawyers are not small-minded, many of whom are not known even among themselves. The Key Biscayne Bar Association is a platform for local lawyers who live or work on the island to gather together socially on a regular basis and share information and services.
